The purpose of the oral history project is to document the different and varied experiences of our peers who lived in State Hospitals and Developmental Centers. To accomplish this, the CMP is researching institutional archives and conducting oral histories to preserve the personal stories and provide first-hand accounts from people who have been in these institutions . This is especially important since most of the information currently available is from the perspective of hospital staff and family members. In this way, people will have the opportunity to learn and better understand the realities of life in an institution.
